Glynis Davies

Glynis Davies completed her Master's of Music Degree in Jazz Studies, Vocal Performance from The Bob Cole Conservatory at CSULB in 2015. During her coursework there she studied with Christine Guter and was her graduate assistant, getting to direct Jazz and Tonic (the schools second vocal jazz group). She holds a Bachelor.s of Music Degree in Jazz Studies, Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. As well as an Associates of Arts Degree in Professional Music from the School for Music Vocations at SWCC, where she directed Organized Noise (a vocal jazz group at the school).
Glynis began playing piano at the age of 3 because her mother was a piano teacher. She comes from a very musical family. At age 7 she asked to start taking singing lessons and doing musical theater. She fell in love with jazz during high school jazz choir, thus choosing her musical pathway. She has a strong classical foundation in both piano and voice with lots of experience in the musical and jazz worlds as well. She has been privately teaching for ten years and loves working with students on an individual basis, as well as group settings.

Currently, Glynis teaches private voice lessons at Marymount University, is the vocal jazz specialist at Downey High School for their jazz choir, and teaches private voice and piano of all ages and styles throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Last year she ran the Vocal Jazz program at Fullerton College, while the director was on leave. Glynis has performed with the professional vocal jazz ensembles True North and Arf!. She has sang in collegiate vocal jazz groups Pacific Standard Time (CSULB) directed by Christine Guter, Jazz Singers (CSUS) directed by Kerry Marsh, and VoicesIowa (SWCC) directed by Phil Mattson. Through these collegiate groups she has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Jazz Educators Network Conference, and Carnegie Hall to name a few. She loves performing in her own projects as well but enjoys teaching even more. Music is the expression of the soul and Glynis loves to help others learn to develop their gifts. Beyond teaching and performing she also loves to compose and arrange music, especially for jazz choir.
